Thanks to the authorities!

I am so happy to see the news yesterday that the Tamil Nadu Government has decided to operate special buses for the school children. Two months ago I read the sad news of a 16 year old boy called Bharathkumar who slipped and fell off from the overcrowded bus near Tambaram, Chennai. He succumbed to head injuries. It hurts a lot when such things happen and his case is not an isolated one. Statistics says that over three lakh children in the city take Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus to school every day with many of them travelling more than 8 km to school.

Bharathkumar’s mother would have told him to take a less crowded bus everyday but unfortunately the less crowded bus never came. I was very annoyed with the fact this happens very frequently in Chennai and authorities have not taken any steps towards putting an end to such disastrous things. With ladies special buses being operated across the city, a special bus for the students would do a world of good to many school going boys and girls who struggle a lot with huge school bags.

It might be adventurous to say that it’s a great thing to experience the footboard travel and to fight for a leg space. You might be calling me a sick old man who prefers to stay away from adventures but I am not worried about it.

With woefully inadequate bus services we are killing the school going children. I have also seen the obnoxious and irritating behaviour of few bus conductors and drivers towards school going girl children. The high class brats who have studied in international schools and village folks who studied in schools in their home’s backyard like me can’t feel or understand their trouble.

There’s no point in arguing about changing the staggering school timings. Increasing the number of buses and introducing more special buses for school going children is the need of the hour and am really glad to see an announcement of our state government recently to operate more special buses in the routes with clusters of schools.

As a common man and a citizen of this country/state I am so thankful to the authorities who have brought a ray of hope to the children who are forced to travel in footboard. Life is too precious and it’s the duty of the Government to provide a conducive and safe environment for the students to focus on their studies. I have not seen Bharathkumar or his parents. But everyone can feel their pain and grief. We can’t do anything to make his parents smile but we can put an end to such things. No more Bharthkumars.

Practicing SEO – beginner to beginner!

Recently I designed a static website. The website offers no functional features but provides plenty of information to its target viewers. The client wanted the site to be listed in Google’s search results while searching with a specific keyword. I was reading blogs and online tutorials about SEO so as to improve my search ranking. As both Google and Bing refused to list that site even after several months since the site is hosted, as was working vigorously to do something towards improving the ranking. Now i am quiet happy with search results. All the blogs, books and experts revealed two major facts: (1) SEO has to do very little with technology (2) Content and its description too are the kings.

Though it is evident that the search giants like Google, Bing and yahoo ranks the site on the basis of topic, quality, reliability and many other factors, we can still do some magic with the meta tags. We can’t improve the ranking of the site just with meta tags, but are really simple tools to improve your standings in search engines.

Here I have listed few of the most important aspects of SEO.

1. Keywords in Meta tag – specify the keywords that describe the site and its services better. If you are running a matrimonial services website than say brides, bridegrooms, profiles, photos, horoscopes, US(!), matrimonial, Chennai, sub sect no bar, etc.

2. Descriptions – Precisely describe the contents of that page – make sure you write the right thing.

3. Links – Let they are appropriate and useful. Raise the following question several times to yourself: “Does this link help my target customer find what they are looking for?”. Don’t add that link until you are really convinced that it is necessary.

4. The contents - The best advice is to make the information on your website useful, descriptive, honest, and compelling to your customers. In one word I can say KISS (Keep it simple, stupid).

Usability Engineering – You are not your user!

Recently I read several interesting articles on usability engineering. I was wondering how haplessly I have coded and I am coding few web applications when it comes to usability/user engineering. I need to often remind myself that “I am not my user”.

I have built a few apps so far. During the design/development process, I am constantly worried about adding more functional features to it (according to the requirements of the clients!) rather than envisioning a sound usability model. At times I forget the fact that client is not the user and the intended user may not be happy with the features my client is very happy about.

Usability aspects have always been an afterthought to many app builders and I am no exception to this. I know my product inside out. Right from the inception stage I watch and control the growth of the application. In my application, I use every single form, visit every single link and work with all its functional parts. Since I can see the application grow and prosper through its entire life cycle, my wishes are imprinted or forced upon the it unknowingly.

This blind phenomenon results in poor usability. We tend to thrust the user with functionalities he never asked for. A specific feature that I think is very essential to my app might irritate its user.

The most important thing is to understand the users and their needs. In the urge to fulfill the requirements of the clients and stakeholders, we ignore the usability aspects of a product. You’re not your user. Remember it. Improve the usability!

குறும்படங்கள்

நிறைய எழுத வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணுகிற போதிலும் வெகு குறைவாகவே எழுத முடிகிறது. நண்பர் ஷாலோம் விஜய் இடுகைகள் குறைந்து விட்டனவே என்று ஒரு மின்னஞ்சல் அனுப்பி இருந்தார். பெரும்பாலும் தமிழ்இடுகைகள் நிறைய எழுதவே விரும்புகிறேன். தொழில்நுட்பம் குறித்த தகவல்கள் தவிர வேறு எதையும் ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதில்லை. கலைச்சொற்கள் தெரியாமல் தடுமாறுவதே அதற்கு மூல காரணம். Blog என்பதற்கு மனஉரை என்கிற புதிய சொல்லை செம்மொழி மாநாட்டு அதிகாரபூர்வ இணையதளத்தில் கண்டேன். மனம் உரைப்பதை எல்லாம் உளறுவதால் மனஉரை என்று பெயரிட்டார்களா என்று தெரியவில்லை. காரணம் எதாகிலும் சொல் நன்றாக இருக்கிறது.

புதிய இடுகைகளாக நான் பார்த்து ரசித்த குறும்படங்கள் குறித்து பகிரலாம் என்று விரும்புகிறேன். குறும்படங்கள் குறித்து பரவலாக இருக்கிற கருத்துகள் பல உடைத்தெறியப்பட வேண்டியவை. பெரும்பாலான குறும்பட முயற்சிகள் வெறும் வணிக நோக்கத்தில் மேற்கொள்ளப்படுவதல்ல என்றபோதும் பல திறன் மிகுந்த பெரிய, சிறிய இயக்குநர்களின் பங்களிப்பு குறும்படங்களுக்கு உள்ளது. தற்போது பல்வேறு படைப்பாளிகள் குறும்படங்களை எடுத்து அவற்றை வெளியிட்டு பரவலான பார்வையாளர்களைப் பெற யுட்யூப் (YouTube) போன்ற இணையதளங்கள் உதவுகின்றன.நான் பார்த்த ஒரு குறும்படத்தின் உரலியை (URL) இந்த இடுகையில் தந்துள்ளேன்.

முதல் உறலி ஒரு தந்தைக்கும் மகனுக்குமான உறவைச் சொல்லும் படம். குழந்தைகள் எப்போதும் தகப்பனின் அன்பில் திளைக்கிறார்கள். தான் வளர வளர தந்தைக்கும் வயதாகிவிடுகிறது என்பதை எந்த மகனும் அறியத் துவங்குவதில்லை. தந்தையின் கை விரல்களைப் பற்றியபடியே தான் நாம் வெளி உலகைக் காண்கிறோம். கொஞ்சம் வளர்ந்த பிறகு, விரல்கள் அவசியமற்றுப் போகின்றன. தந்தைக்கும் மகனுக்குமான உறவு படகிற்கும் மரத்தச்சனுக்கும் உள்ள உறவைப் போன்றது. அந்த படகை செய்தவர் மரத்தச்சன் தான் என்றாலும் அவர் அதை ரொம்பநாள் வைத்திருந்து உரிமை கொண்டாட முடியாது. நீரில் விட்டுத்தான் ஆக வேண்டும். அது நன்றாக பயணித்தால் கரையில் நின்று மகிழலாம். கவிழ்ந்தால் அதே கரையில் நின்று கண்ணீர் வடிக்கத்தான் முடியும் - என்கிற எஸ். ராமகிரிஷ்ணனின் வரிகளை இப்படம் நினைவூட்டுகிறது. ஒரு முதிய தந்தைக்கு தேவை அக்கறையும் அன்பும் மட்டுமே. மன்னிப்பு, நன்றி மற்றும் அன்பு இவை மூன்றும்தான் மனிதனின் மகத்தான கண்டுபிடிப்புகள்.

இக்குறும்படம் பற்றி நிறைய சொல்வதற்கில்லை. சிறிய குறும்படம், மூன்றே கதாபாத்திரங்கள், ஒரே இடம். ஆனால் வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் நினைவில் இருக்க கூடிய கருத்தும் காட்சியமைப்பும். படத்தின் தரமும் உள்ளடக்கமும் கவித்துவ நுட்பமும் பன்மடங்கு உயர்வாக இருக்கிறது. நான் யு ட்யூப்-இல் செலவிட்டதிலேயே உபயோகமான நேரம் என்று ஒன்று உண்டென்றால் அது இக்குறும்படம் பார்த்த நேரம் தான் - என்கிற யாரோ ஒருவருடைய பின்னூட்டமே இப்படத்தின் தரத்துக்கு ஓர் நற்சான்று. மழை விட்டு வெகு நேரம் ஆனபின்னும் மரத்து இலைகளில் இருந்து சொட்டிக் கொண்டிருக்கிற நீர் போல படம் முடிந்தபின்னரும் காட்சிகள் ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக மனதில் இருந்து கசியத் துவங்குகின்றன.

வாழ்க வளமுடன்!

சமீபத்தில் ஒரு மூதாட்டி தனது உடல் நிலை சீரானபடி இல்லாததால், சிகிச்சைக்காக தமிழகம் வந்திருக்கிறார். எவ்வகையிலும் சமூகத்தின் அமைதிக்கு அவர் குந்தகம் விளைவிக்கப் போவதில்லை என்று உள்ளங்கை நெல்லிக்கனி போல் தெரிந்தும், அவரை விமானத்திலேயே நிறுத்தி, தமிழகத்திற்குள் வர அனுமதி மறுக்கப்பட்டிருகிறது. பாதுகாப்பு காரணங்கள் காட்டி, வந்த முதியோரை விரட்டி அடித்திருக்கிறது, சங்கத்தமிழ் பேசும் கல்தோன்றி, மண்தோன்றாக் காலத்தே முன்தோன்றிய மூத்த தமிழ்க்குடி(?! டாஸ்மாக் நினைவுக்கு வந்தால், நான் பொறுப்பல்ல).

தமிழனைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் "அன்பிலர் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர். அன்புடையார் என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு. யாதும் ஊரே, யாவரும் கேளிர்" போன்ற கலாச்சாரப் பேச்சுக்கள் பட்டிமண்டபங்களுக்கும், அரசியல் மேடைகளுக்கும், கல்வெட்டுகளுக்கு மட்டுமே, நிஜ வாழ்கைக்கு இல்லை என்று பறைசாற்றுகிறதாக இருக்கிறது இந்நிகழ்வு. தமிழனின் நிஜ முகம் - பயமும், மறதியும். அஞ்சி அஞ்சிச் சாவார், இவர் அஞ்சாத பொருளில்லை அவனியிலே என்ற பாரதியின் கூற்று மறுபடியும் நிருபணமாகி இருக்கிறது. சிறந்த மருத்துவர்கள், தரம் நிறைந்த மருத்துவமனைகள், ஆசியாவிலேயே சிறந்த மருத்துவ மையங்கள் நிறைந்த நகரம் சென்னை என்று சொல்லிகொள்வதில் ஒரு பெருமையும் இல்லை. சிகிச்சை அவசியமாய் இருப்பவர்களை, மருத்துவம் காக்கும் என நம்பி வருவோரை திருப்பி அனுப்பும் குணம் வாய்ந்தோர் உள்ள செந்தமிழ்நாடு ஒருபுறம் என்றால், விமானப் போக்குவரத்துத்துறை அமைச்சர் பிரபுல் படேல் மகள், IPL போட்டிகளுக்காக ஒரு விமானத்தை வழி மாற்றி இருக்கிறார். ரொம்ப முக்கியம்!

தமிழன் என்றொரு இனமுண்டு....

சினிமாவுக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக வெகுஜனங்களை ஈர்த்த ஐபீஎல்(IPL) என்கிற அதி உன்னதமான நிகழ்வு தற்போது முடிவுக்கு வந்துவிட்டது. கோடிக்கணக்கில் பணத்தை வாரி இறைக்கும் இந்த விளையாட்டு மோகத்தில் தன்னிலை மறந்தோர் பலர். புரளும் பணம், பலரது கவனத்திற்கும் உள்ளானதால், அரசு தற்போது அப்பணத்தை தன்வசப்படுத்த முடியுமா என்று யோசிக்கின்றது. அரசு இயந்திரம் ஏற்கனவே பல காமெடிகள் செய்திருக்கிறது. அதன் IPL அத்யாயம் ஏற்படுத்தும் புதிய காமெடிகள் என்னவென்று பொறுத்திருந்து தான் பார்க்க வேண்டும். IPL ஸ்கோர் தெரியாதவன் ஆதிவாசிகளில் ஒருவன் என்கிற நிலையில் வேற்றுமைப்படுத்தப்பட்டு, இரவெல்லாம் கண்விழித்து மேட்ச் பார்த்து, பகலெல்லாம் அது குறித்து விவாதிக்கும் அதி புத்திசாலிகள் அதிகரித்துவிட்டனர். குடிநீர் பிரச்சினை, விஷம்போல உயரும் விலை வாசி, புவி வெப்பமயமாதல், GSLV தோல்வி என்பதெல்லாம் தாண்டி, IPL மட்டுமே பேச்சில் மையம்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

எப்போதும் போல் சராசரித் தமிழன், தேர்தல் நேரத்தில் மட்டும், அரசின் செயல்முறைகள் குறித்து யோசித்து விட்டு, யார் அதிகப் பணம் தருகிறார்களோ அவர்களுக்கு வாக்களித்து விடுகிறான். அவன் வாழ்வை நெறிப்படுத்தவும், அவன் சிந்தனைகளை மேம்பட்டதாகவும் மாற்றியமைக்க சினிமா மற்றும் IPL என்று இரு முக்கிய வாழ்வியல் முறைகள் (?!) உள்ளன என்று சொன்னால் அது மிகை ஆகாது. வாராவாரம் ஆனந்தவிகடன் பல்வேறு பிரபலங்களைப் பற்றி துணுக்குகளாக செய்திகள் தருகிறது. கமல், ரஜினி, சச்சின், அழகிரி, டோனி போன்றவர்களின் வரிசையில் அவ்வப்போது சில பிரபலமாகதவர்களும் வருவதுண்டு, மக்களின் நீடுதுயில் நீக்க மூத்திரச்சட்டியோடு தள்ளாதவயதிலும் பேசி அலைந்த பகுத்தறிவுப் பகலவன் பெரியார், வாழ்வே தவமென வாழ்ந்த காமராசர், உழைப்பவன் வாழ்வு மேம்பட ஊரெல்லாம் மறைந்து அலைந்து தன்வாழ்வு பாராத தோழர் ஜீவா எல்லாம் மேற்குறிப்பிட்ட உத்தமர்களுக்குப் பின்னரே. அட்டைப்படத்தில் பாவனாவும், ஒரு ஓரத்தில் ஜீவாவும் பார்க்க நேர்ந்தது இவ்வாரம். ஜீவா படம் அட்டையில் இருந்தால், ஜனசக்தி நாளிதழ் என்று நம் அருமைத் தமிழன் வாங்காமல் சென்று விடுவான். விகடனைச் சொல்லி குற்றமில்லை.

வெயில் புராணம்

கோடையின் தீவிரம் தெரியத் துவங்கிவிட்டது இப்போதே. முன்னெப்போதும் இல்லாத அளவிற்கு கோடை இம்முறை மூர்கமாக இருப்பதாக உணர்கிறேன். யார்மீதோ கோபம் கொண்டனைப் போல் வெயில் ஆவேசமாக இயங்குகிறது. மரங்கள் கூட அசைவற்றுஇருக்கின்றன. தெருவெங்கும் ஆக்டோபஸ் போல வெம்மை தன் பல்வேறு கைகளால் மனிதர்களை கசக்கிப் பிழிகிறது. வெம்மை ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் நீருக்கான யுத்தத்தை துவங்கி விடுகிறது. அடுத்த உலக யுத்தம் நீருக்காகவே இருக்கும் என்று யாரோ சொல்லக் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன்.

வெயில் சன்னதம் கொண்டவனைப் போல் ஆக்ரோஷமாக ஆடுகிறது. அதன்ஒங்காரவேட்டையை நம்மால் உணரமுடிகிறது. யாராலும் தடுக்க முடியாத ஒரு போர் வீரனைப் போல் அது எல்லோரையும் முதுகில் அறைகிறது. வியர்வை கசகசக்கும் ஆடைகள் மனிதர்களை சொற்கள் அற்ற முரடர்கள் ஆக மாற்றி விடுகின்றன. அவனது அன்பான சொற்களை அவனிடமிருந்து பறித்து கொண்டுவிடுகிறது. கசக்கி எறியப்பட்ட காகிதம் போல வெம்மை நம்மை அலைக்கழிக்கிறது.


மனிதர்களின் சொற்களில் வெம்மையின் கொடூரம் களிம்பேறி இருக்கிறது. அரசமரத்தடி விநாயகர் நீர்கண்டு பல நாள் ஆன குகை மனிதனைப் போல தோற்றமளிக்கிறார். கோடையில் குருவிகள் நீர் அருந்துவதற்கு ஏதுவாக கல்லில் கிண்ணம் அடித்து நீர்ரூற்றி வைக்கிற வழக்கம் முற்றிலுமாக வழக்கொழிந்து விட்டதென்றே நினைகிறேன். மந்திக் குரங்குகள் மதிய நேரத்தில் குட்டிக் குரங்குகள் சகிதம் தொட்டி நீரில் அமிழ்ந்து ஆனந்தமாகக் குதியாட்டம் போடுகின்றன. சுதத்திரமான ஒரு ஜீவன் இன்று நீருக்காக மனிதனிடம் கையேந்திஇருக்கிறது.

அடிக்கிற வெயிலுக்கு நாமும் எதாவது குளம் குட்டையில் விழுந்துவிடலாமா என்று யோசித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். தென்கரை வாய்கால் ஒன்று ஊரில் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.அதில் எருமை மாடுகள் நன்கு நீரில் மூழ்கி, கரையோரம் இருக்கிற காந்தழ் பூக்களைத் தின்று கொண்டிருக்கும். வெயில் காலங்களில்,ஆண்கள் மேல்நிலைப் பள்ளி அருகேஇருக்கிற வாய்க்காலில் விளையாடி முடித்து விட்டு குளிக்க வேண்டும் என்கிற ஆசை பலமுறை வந்திருக்கிறது.அதன் ஆழமும் சுழற்சியும் அதிகம் என்பதால் அப்பா அதில் குளிக்க விடமாட்டார். பலமுறை கேட்டும் அனுமதி கிடைத்ததில்லை. அவரது பத்தாம் நாள்காரியத்தின் போது தான் குளிக்க நேர்ந்தது. ஒரு வரட்டுப் புன்னகையுடன் முங்கி எழுந்துவிட்டு வந்தேன். இப்போதெல்லாம் துஷ்டி வீடுகளுக்குப் போய் வருகையில் மட்டுமே குளிக்க நேருகிறது வாய்க்காலில்.

நாய்கள் கூட மர நிழலில் அசைவற்றுப் படுத்துக்கிடக்கின்றன. தெருவெங்கும் மழை நீரைப் போலே வெயில் வழிந்து ஓடுகிறது. கையில் ஒட்டிக்கொண்ட அழுக்கு போல வெயில் நம்மைப் பிரிய மறுக்கிறது. ஆனாலும் நான் கோடையைக் கண்டு மிரளுவதில்லை.வெம்மை என் வாழ்வோடு இணைந்திருக்கிறது.

உறங்க மறுப்பவனும் உறக்கம் தொலைத்தவனும்...

ஒரு நாள் நடுஇரவில் உறக்கம் கலைந்து எழுந்து கொண்டேன். மீண்டும் மீண்டும் முயற்சி செய்தும் உறக்கம் வரவில்லை. எண்ணங்கள் அனைத்தும் ஒரு சேரக் கிளம்பி என் மீது விழுந்து அழுத்த ஆரம்பித்தன. தூக்கம் தொலைத்த இரவுகள் அனைத்தும் என் ஆழ்மனத்தின் வேதனைகளைக் கிளறி விடுகின்றன. காலை எழும்போது நம் கவலைகள் அனைத்தும் தீர்ந்துவிடும் என்கிற எண்ணமே பலரை இரவில் நிம்மதியாக உறங்க வைக்கிறது. ஆனால் நடுஇரவில் எழுந்துகொள்பவன் வேதனை சொல்லில் அடங்காததாக இருக்கிறது. கவனத்தை திசை திருப்புவதற்காக வேறு ஏதேனும் யோசிக்க முயற்சித்தேன். தூக்கம் குறித்தே நினைவலைகள் சுழன்றன. தூக்கம் ஏன் இவ்வளவு அவசியமான ஒரு நிகழ்வாக இருக்கிறது? தூக்கம் ஏன் ஒரு கரும்பூதம் போல நம்மை அணைத்துக்கொண்டு விடுகிறது? தூக்கம் தொலைத்தவன் உலகம் ஏன் இத்தனை வலி நிரம்பியதாக இருக்கிறது? உறங்க மறுப்பவனும் உறக்கம் தொலைத்தவனும் ஒன்றா? எனப் பல்வேறு கேள்விகள் மனதைக் குடைந்து கொண்டிருந்தன. தோற்றுப்போனவன் மனதில் இருந்து பீறிடும் துக்கம் போல, விழித்துக்கொண்டவன் மனதில் இருந்து கேள்விகள் பீறிடுவதேன்?

பாதியில் கலைந்த உறக்கத்தை தொடர்வது ஏன் இத்தனை கடினமாக இருக்கிறது? எப்படியாவது உறங்க வேண்டும் என்று வலிந்து முயன்றால் துர்சொப்பனங்கள் நுரைக்கின்றன. விழித்திருந்த படியே இரவைக் கவனிக்கத் துவங்கினேன். விழித்திருப்பவனுக்கு இரவு நீண்டது என்கிற வாக்கியத்தை எங்கோ கேட்டிருக்கிறேன்.

தஸ்தோயவ்ஸ்கியின் வெள்ளை இரவுகளில் வரும் கனவுலகவாசி நினைவுக்கு வந்தான். உலகில் எந்த பெண்ணும் என்னை நேசிக்கவில்லை என்று புலம்புவனாக அவன் இருக்கிறான். அவனைப் போலவே அழுத்தும் கொடுந்தனிமையை பகிர்ந்துகொள்ள யாரும் இல்லாதவனாக சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு உறங்க மறுப்பவனாக இருந்தேன். தற்போது பிரிவின் துயரத்தையும், காரணமற்ற துக்கத்தையும் சுமந்துகொண்டு உறக்கம் தொலைத்தவனாக இருக்கிறேன். உறக்கம் தொலைத்தவனுக்கு இரவு என்பது இயற்கையின் ஒரு அங்கம் என்பது மறந்து போய்விடுகிறது. அதிலும் பின்னிரவுகள் எப்போதுமே ஒரு தனி அழகைக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. இரவோடு ஒரு உயிரோட்டமான நெருக்கம் வந்து விடுகிறது. இரவு என் அந்தரங்கங்களின் தோழனாக இருக்கிறது. என் தனிமையும், இனிய நினைவுகளும், வேதனைகளும் என் எண்ணிக்கையற்ற இரவுகளுடன் பின்னப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன.

Google’s Buzz – Is it just my inbox monster or a momentum towards catching up in real-time search?

I was wondering about the Google’s buzz as one of my students asked about the Google’s intention behind buzz. Before I get to know about buzz, I received various buzz comments on my Gmail’s status messages. I wanted to know the real motive of Google as I was a bit worried about the privacy of my status messages and the buzz comments that goes to everyone who follows me in buzz. As I googled in Google about Google’s buzz, the results introduced me a new terminology (new to me my dear geeks, not to you!) called “real-time web”.

Real-time web is about some technologies and practices that make the user receive information as soon as it is published by their authors. Some of the best and most renowned examples are Facebook’s “what’s on your mind?” and Twitter’s Tweets. They contribute a lot to real time search.

The search giant Google don’t want such things to be a threat to its position. Real-time web content is really making things work when it comes to instantaneous and immediate discovery of information added newly. As we guess that it affects the major business of Google, it has launched buzz. I wonder in what way their slow and delayed entry is going to give them a dominating place as far as real-time web is concerned.

In a recent interview Larry Page of Google admitted that Twitter has done a great job when it comes to providing real time information. He also spoke about the tradeoffs in the accuracy of the information that is made instantly available to the users.

It seems that Google can’t buy twitter as it remains well with its “not for sale” policy. Google has already burnt their fingers in trying to buy Facebook. That’s why Google has forged partnerships with facebook and twitter through Buzz. Buzz is just Google’s push to make them self comfortable in real-time web search.

Search is still an unsolved problem and Google is striving hard with real-time search features. With a dynamic stream of real-time content from across the web, Google provides live updates to users from sites like Twitter and FriendFeed which are published seconds before. Google is working hard on mobile searches as the smart phones have redefined the meaning of “query”. By searching using voice, location and sight all from a mobile device, mobile search still requires a huge technological backbone.

Will Buzz and its collaborative working model of integrating Facebook and Twitter into Gmail be fruitful for Google in catching up with real-time search? Let’s wait and see where the buzz about Buzz is heading to.
